What and who is ADPHONE?
ADPHONE delivers telephony over the internet. Using our program – a so-called softphone – we turn your computer into a phone from where you can call any phone in the world at extremely low rates (and for many locations you don’t even pay for the first two minutes).
ADPHONE is a software company, based in Copenhagen, Denmark. We have been making calls through the internet available for years – and we will continue to do so for years to come. We also have a subsidiary in Brazil, serving the Latin American market. See more company information here.
How can you be so much cheaper than everyone else?
For two reasons. One, we are big buyers from our suppliers so we get deep discounts - and two, we show you a small ad, while you make your call with the ADPHONE software, so charging for calls is not our only source of income. Support our advertisers – they give you those free or cheap calls!

To dial a phone number, you open ADPHONE on your computer. Then you enter the country code of the phone number you want to dial (e.g. 86 for China, 55 for Brazil, 91 for India, etc.) in the field called “Country Code”. In the next field, called “Phone Number”, you write the phone number you want to call, including the area code if such applies. You then click on the big round DIAL button to the right, and your call is being made.
Sound issues
I can’t hear anything – what’s wrong?
- Make sure that your headset and/or your speakers are plugged into your computer.
- Make sure that the volume of both the microphone and speaker are set to an acceptable level. Some microphones have a mute button. Make sure that it’s not turned on.
- Click “Settings” in the ADPHONE software, and choose “Audio”. From there, you have a button called “Configure”. When you click the button you should be able to hear your own voice slightly delayed. If you have more than one microphone and/or speaker connected to your computer, then you can choose which device ADPHONE should use when dialing.
- If you can’t hear your own voice no matter what combination of devices you are choosing, then you need to adjust the settings for the audio devices on your computer. We, unfortunately don’t provide support for setting up specific types of audio devices, and you will have to ask your vendor.
People I talk to seem to be stammering and falling out during the call – what is going on?
This is typically a sign of lack of bandwidth on your internet connection. Although we do our best, ADPHONE has no control over your internet connection’s speed. We have optimized our program to cope the best way possible with low bandwidth, but it can happen that sometimes your internet provider’s bandwidth is too low or unstable.
People I talk to can hear an echo of themselves when talking to me - why?
Make sure that only the sound from your microphone is captured. Many sound cards allow more lines to be captured at the same time, and this can cause unwanted sound to be send to the receiver. In the recording properties of your sound card, mute all lines except the microphone.
What is “Units”?
The “Unit” is the universal and worldwide currency of ADPHONE. Units is what you will buy to make those cheap calls – and your ADPHONE account’s balance will be in Units. To see how many Units it costs to call a specific location, click here.
